Remebering mykal
His Legacy
Michael Darnell Laury II’s sun rose on Friday April 22, 1988 and sadly set on Thursday June 11, 2020. Mykal was just that—A beautiful ray of light, whose smile shined bright even in the darkness times. There was no illness that could cloud his radiance, no pain that could stop his spirit, and no outcome that he couldn’t turn around with a grin from cheek to cheek.
He was more than just a beautiful dancer. He was a son, a nephew, a god-father, and grandson, doggy dad and a friend. Mykal had a heart as big as his smile and every time he walked into a room you knew his love was there. He greeted you with such caring energy, you instantly felt connected to him in some way. His aura made you feel like home—Mykal always had a place to rest your worrisome head and truly be yourself.
Mykal lived his life better than most and dance was his chosen language. He performed with PHILADANCO, Aida International Tour, Phantom of the Opera Broadway and National Tour, Lion King on Broadway and National Tou and danced with legends like Beyonce, Rihanna, Alica Keys, and even Cher. He lived life without regret, without malice, without hesitation, and without fear. Broken bones and torn ligaments never stopped him from doing what he loved to do most. Mykal danced his way into most people’s hearts by simply moving with passion and confidence. He made you believe dance was fun and that you had to “ Feeel it, honey,” words often used when Mykal connected with the art of dance.

More than anything Mykal wanted to be a star. But little did he know, he was the sun in many’s galaxy. So even if his sun has set, his light will burn bright on our moons’ sweetest dreams. For no sun truly sets forever. They just become distant stars in the memories of hearts.
